What about for fat burning? Over the past few years since fasting has become more popular, books have been published and making shock waves throughout the world.

how does fasting help with fat loss? It's a myth that our body needs 5 small meals a day to our keep metabolism high and in fact can have the opposite outcome compared to the popular belief that if we don't eat regularly our body will switch to starvation mode.
What actually happens is we can experience a greater amount of energy and mental alertness, while our body burns stubborn fat for energy, particularly in the lower abdomen areas. Our muscles glycogen stores become depleted making us more insulin sensitive, this means our body requires much less insulin when too much sugar is present in our body.
A popular question about fasting is how long for? Around 14 hours into fast, that's when your body typically switches to fat burning and the longer go the more of the other benefits you'll reap, such as: New cells being created and natural detoxification.
It is advised that you don't fast for any longer than 24 hours at a time as this is when it can become dangerous as your body does need food for vitamins, minerals, protein, fats and healthy low GI carbohydrates. Understand that there is nothing to be concerned about with short fasts.
Another common thing I see is, when people finally end a their fast, they think it's okay to eat whatever they like such as junk food. This is not encouraged and really does defeat the whole purpose. You will see and feel better results if you have a healthy eating plan to follow.
In saying that, don't disallow your favourite treat occasionally such as a chocolate bar, life is too short to miss out on your favourite treats. This will not harm your efforts and will help you stay better on track.
Although for the average healthy adult, fasting can bring many health benefits, I just want to stress that it isn't recommend for everyone and if you have any health concerns, then always see your Doctor first. People with diabetes, low or high blood pressure, breastfeeding and pregnant women especially should not perform a fast and to consult their doctor.
